Waiheke Island is only a 35-40 minute ferry ride from Auckland CBD and you arrive in a completely different world.
From beautiful white sandy beaches to award winning restaurants, world-class vineyards, breweries, distilleries, cafes & shops, art galleries, sculpture parks, yoga studios, gorgeous New Zealand native bush, cascades, stunning coastal walking tracks & rocky headlands. Clear blue water that's great for swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing & it also holds lots of music festivals and events, specially in summer.
Many people say Waiheke Island reminds them of parts of the Mediterranean because of its sunny climate, the vineyards, olive trees, coastal scenery and relaxed lifestyle.
The difference is that Waiheke combines this Mediterranean feel with New Zealand's distinctive landscapes, native wildlife, and uncrowded beaches.

Planning a wedding on Waiheke Island is incredibly exciting.
As an island destination, it offers a truly unforgettable setting but there are a few extra details to consider to ensure your day runs as smoothly as possible.
I've had the pleasure of working alongside many of the most talented island's vendors, including celebrants, florists, accommodation providers, planners, and many more whom I highly recommend. These people will ensure you have the most amazing day!
So with my experience in mind, I've put together a helpful guide to make the planning of your Waiheke Island wedding a little easier and help you have the most memorable day.

How to Plan a Waiheke Island Wedding.
First things first:
1-What type of wedding you dream of?
Vineyard, beachfront, olive grove, garden, or private estate setting?
How many people will be joining you?
2- Book your venue early (at least 12 months in advance) and/or reach out to a planner to help you book or find the right private spot.
3- Set your budget.
4- Book your local vendors: photographer and videographer, wedding planner, florist, celebrant, caterer, hair & make up artist, muscian etc.
~Choosing local vendors will cut the costs of their transport/traveling fees and in some cases accommodation~
5- Once the date is locked in, send "save the date" to your guests earlier than usual, include ferry, transport information and you can also share recommended accommodation options.

Guests
Transport.
Both Passenger Ferry and Vehicle Ferry options are available. Make sure your guests know there might be a queque to board the ferries from downtown to Waiheke, specially in summer.
From Matiatia to the wedding location you can pre-book shuttles for your guests & return transport after the reception and/or transport for guests staying at different accommodations around the island.
Where to stay.
There is a large variety of accommodation options available, from luxury retreats and hotels to family-friendly holiday homes, cute cottages and some venues offer their own accommodation on-site for the bride & groom.
I have worked at the main holiday home companies and luxury accommodations on the island and can get you in touch with the right people.
The
Weather.
Waiheke enjoys a warm, sunny climate from October to April, but the weather can still change quickly.
Choosing a venue with both indoor and outdoor options or have a wet weather backup plan in place could be handy.
Highly recommend having clear umbrellas as a backup for rain.
If it rains, we can still achieve beautiful shots!
